GEON Commissions Battery Energy Storage Project in Rajasthan
GEON, the future technologies division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd, has commissioned a 10 MW/20 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Phalodi, Rajasthan. The project is designed to support renewable energy integration, grid stability and energy management in the state. It has been implemented in accordance with the requirements of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (RVPNL). ## Diversified Product The BESS project includes a battery storage container, power conversion system (PCS) and energy management system (EMS), along with factory acceptance testing (FAT), pre-commissioning, commissioning and site acceptance testing (SAT). With a power capacity of 10 MW and an energy storage capacity of 20 MWh, the system is designed to support electricity management and facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the grid. The project is also aligned with Rajasthan’s renewable energy and green energy access framework, including the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (Green Energy Open Access Registration and Terms and Conditions) Regulations, 2025, notified under RERC/Secretary/Regulation-158 on May 21, 2025. ## Environmental Benefits GEON said the environmental benefits of battery storage can be enhanced when the system is charged using renewable energy. According to the NITI Frontier Tech Hub, a BESS system of this scale could contribute to approximately 1 lakh metric tonnes of CO₂ savings over a 10-15 year operational lifecycle when charged with renewable energy. Commenting on the commissioning, Anand Kabra, Chairman and Managing Director, GEON, said, “The successful commissioning of our 10 MW/20 MWh BESS project at Phalodi is an important milestone in our journey towards building a more resilient and renewable-ready power ecosystem. Energy storage will play a critical role in balancing renewable generation with demand, improving grid stability and enabling greater utilisation of clean energy. We are pleased to contribute to Rajasthan’s growing renewable energy landscape through projects that combine reliable technology with long-term sustainability.” The commissioning comes as battery energy storage systems gain importance with the expansion of solar and wind capacity in India. BESS can provide flexibility in managing variable renewable generation, peak demand and grid requirements. ## About GEON Founded in 2018, GEON (Green Energy ON) is the future technologies division of Kabra Extrusiontechnik Ltd.
