About Beans

A news reader that brings publisher reporting together so you can follow what is gaining attention.

What is the Beans app?

Beans presents concise snapshots of original publisher reporting, groups related coverage into stories, and links you back to the source. It is a news discovery app, not a publisher or a replacement for the original article.

Trending stories use engagement signals and cross-publisher coverage to show what is receiving attention. Related reporting is grouped so you can inspect the sources and supporting coverage around a developing story.

More is available through the Beans API

The data behind this app is powered by the publicly available Beans API from Project Cafecito. This interface intentionally shows a focused subset of the API's news, story, source, and trend data.

Use the API when you need a broader and more diverse dataset, your own filters, semantic search, trend signals, story-propagation timelines, or MCP access for an application or AI workflow.

Why use Beans?

Beans was created to offer a more realistic view of what is latest and what is trending, without relying on the gamified, search-optimized ranking patterns that can shape conventional news discovery.

In a world of misleading and fabricated news, Beans helps you inspect a story in context. It correlates coverage across publishers to surface related reporting and supporting artifacts, while keeping the original sources visible so you can judge the evidence for yourself.

How Beans works

Compare coverage, keep sources visible, and interpret attention signals with care.

Original reporting stays with the publisher

Beans is a news discovery app from Project Cafecito. Headlines and concise snapshots link to the original publisher. Beans does not publish the original reporting or replace the full article. Open the publisher link to read its context and check its evidence.

Coverage and related reporting

Articles associated with a story are grouped into a timeline. Dates are the publication dates supplied by the feed; they are not independently verified times of an event. Related reporting provides other accounts to inspect. Grouping can be imperfect: a matching story is not proof that all linked accounts agree or are equally reliable.

Article counts and publisher counts

A coverage article count counts the loaded, deduplicated articles. A source count counts distinct publishers within that group. The related count on a card is supplied by the feed and can differ from the coverage articles currently available. More articles does not mean more independent evidence.

Confidence and ideology

Confidence is an Espresso signal available as low, moderate or high. It is not a fact-check verdict, a probability that a claim is true, or a guarantee of accuracy. Ideology is a feed-supplied label; it does not describe every statement in an article. Missing signals are omitted.

Trending and engagement

Trending indicators use attention signals from the feed. Hot and Trending describe activity, not importance or reliability. Mentions, likes and comments are lower-bound values and may be incomplete; missing or zero counts are hidden.

Freshness and selection

Now shows trending news across all categories, five articles per batch, using a two-day window. Category feeds combine one trending article from that window with four latest articles from the past seven days where available. The interface focuses on English-language news. Source pages can relax those filters when no recent English news is available.

Report a problem or correction

Contact Project Cafecito to report a mismatched story, source, signal, or count. Include the Beans page URL and the original publisher link so the issue can be reviewed. Corrections to original reporting belong with the publisher; use the private inquiry channel for confidential requests.
