Speaker Mike Johnson Cancels Thursday Votes and Sends the House Home Tonight — Recess Until AFTER the Midterms
Credit: Gage Skidmore / Flickr House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Wednesday that Thursday’s scheduled House votes are canceled. Lawmakers will likely wrap up votes tonight and leave Washington for a recess lasting until after the November midterms. Fox News congressional correspondent Bill Melugin first reported the announcement: “House Speaker Mike Johnson tells reporters tomorrow’s House votes are canceled & the House will likely leave after votes tonight and go on recess until after the November midterms.” This comes after more than 100 House Democrats called on Johnson to scrap the recess and stay in session over an “AI crisis.” > BREAKING: House Speaker Mike Johnson tells reporters tomorrow’s House votes are cancelled & the House will likely leave after votes tonight and go on recess until after the November midterms. > > This, after 100+ House Dems called for him to cancel the recess to deal w/ “AI crisis”. > > — Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) September 16, 2026 The House already slashed its September schedule earlier this month, canceling the weeks of Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. After a brief return this week following the long August break, members now get another early exit. The last voting day before Election Day is effectively tonight. The House is scheduled to return to Washington, D.C. on Monday, November 9, 2026, the week following Election Day (November 3). > With a CR in place, Congress is scheduled for another recess in October in the runup to the November elections. Members of the House are expected to leave Washington, DC the week of September 21, two weeks earlier than originally scheduled, while Senators are expected to remain in DC until October 2. > > Given the short timeframe and quickly approaching midterm elections, the House is not expected to take up major legislative proposals in the coming weeks; members of the Senate will likely focus on confirming federal judges ahead of the October break. > > After the November 3 elections, both chambers will be back November 9 with only five remaining weeks in session before the year—and the current congressional session—ends. > > Between November 9 and December 11, lawmakers will need to either pass all 12 remaining FY27 spending bills for federal programs, enact another CR to temporarily extend funding for federal programs again, or risk a government shutdown. > > The path Congress pursues moving forward may depend on whether control of the House or Senate changes hands after the election—for example, Congress might pass all 12 FY27 spending bills before the year ends to give the incoming Congress a “clean slate” to start their work, but if control of both the House and Senate flip, lawmakers may hold off on finalizing FY27 spending bills to give the new Congress the opportunity to rewrite the spending bills in the new year. American taxpayers are still paying these members their full salaries, base pay of $174,000 a year, plus leadership stipends, generous benefits, and the usual perks that help many of them get richer while in office. Meanwhile, ordinary Americans punch a clock, get two weeks of vacation if they’re lucky, and watch Congress take months off.

Trump Blasts Karl Rove as “Stone Cold Loser” Hours After Former Bush Adviser Says He Will Vote Democrat
Credit: Wikimedia Commons President Donald Trump unloaded Monday night on longtime Bush-era operative Karl Rove, branding the Fox News and Wall Street Journal fixture a “stone cold loser” who is “so bad for the Republican Party.” Trump wrote on Truth Social: > “Karl Rove is so bad for the Republican Party, and completely wrong so often. He suffers from a major case of Trump Derangement Syndrome primarily because, for almost 10 years, I beat back and won against so many of the people and things that he wanted and espoused. Why does FoxNews and the WSJ keep his RINO Voice alive. The guy is a stone cold loser!” The president’s Truth Social blast came hours after Rove told a private Austin lunch crowd he would break more than 30 years of Republican voting and cast a ballot for a Democrat. According to reporting by Carlos Nogueras Ramos of The Texas Tribune, Rove made the remarks Monday at a members-only lunch at Austin’s Headliners Club. Attendees said he called Republican Texas Railroad Commission nominee Bo French a “bigot” and declared he would vote for Houston Democrat Jon Rosenthal instead. Rove claimed the last Democrat he backed was Texas Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock in 1994. This Is Not New. Rove Has Been Undermining MAGA for Years. In 2022, Rove’s PAC ran ads that helped Democrat Josh Shapiro while he also fundraised for Never-Trumper Adam Kinzinger — then turned around and blamed President Trump for Republican midterm losses d Held a Fundraiser for Adam Kinzinger Blames Trump for Midterm Losses. In 2024, the same Rove went on MSNBC and savaged Trump’s pledge to pardon J6 defendants, calling them “thugs” and “sons of b**ches.” Before that, Rove was fighting a subpoena in the Eric Greitens matter after working with Sheena Greitens on allegations that collapsed under scrutiny. WATCH: Tom Homan Confirms “Criminal Investigation” Into Ilhan Omar Ongoing, Says She Could be Denaturalized
Border Czar Tom Homan on Sunday said during a Fox News appearance that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is under investigation for immigration fraud and that she could be denaturalized and deported. “We have denaturalized citizens based on fraud, based on lying on their applications or lying through the process, misrepresenting themselves, or maybe misrepresenting organizations they belong to or beliefs they have,” Homan said. This comes after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said at the RNC convention last week that Omar is under investigation for her and her family’s crimes. As The Gateway Pundit reported, Mullin on Friday confirmed that Ilhan Omar “married her brother to try to bring him into the United States” and there is an “ongoing investigation” “Something’s going to happen,” Mullin said, adding, “If we can prove that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we’ll deport you.” https://hugh.cdn.rumble.cloud/video/fwe2/54/s8/2/K/6/N/X/K6NXA.caa.mp4?u=4&b=0 DHS Secretary Says Ilhan Omar Committed Immigration Fraud Asked about Mullin’s comments, Homan declined to comment on Omar’s case, describing it as an “ongoing criminal investigation.” “I know things are going on, but I can’t give specifics of what’s happening,” he continued, adding that the Department of Homeland Security is continuing to investigate. Homan did not say whether there was a denaturalization case being brought against Omar. Still, he noted, “If someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they in fact lied or misrepresent themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them. We’ve done it before, many times over the last 40 years I’ve been around.” He further responded to likely criticisms from the Democrats, accusing the Trump administration of political motivation if they do go after Omar, saying, “ICE is enforcing law that Congress wrote!”

JUST IN: GiveSendGo for Doxxed Clancy Holdout Juror Raises Over $115,000 Amid Smear Campaign by Feminist Jurors and Leftwing Media
GiveSendGo created for lone Clancy holdout juror As the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial faces a targeted campaign to expose and discredit him by the mainstream media, supporters of his now-heroic stand against the injustice of murdering children are coming to his aid. A GiveSendGo page to help the juror with security, attorneys, and lost work when the Fem Nazi mob comes for him has already raised over $115,000 as of Monday morning. The fundraiser was created by an X user who goes by Tom Hennesey on September 4, the day a mistrial was declared. As of Saturday, the fundraiser had only raised about $22,000, but nearly $100,000 has been contributed since! The juror was relentlessly smeared in the media by his co-jurors, who shared details of his identity and incited opposition to his position that Clancy committed a crime when she strangled her three young children. The female jurors called him “arrogant” and complained that he could not get past the fact that Clancy had “viciously killed her children.” One female juror said the holdout stood on the way of their attempt to “change something to make it better for other women.” News of the holdout juror’s race and age was broken on CBS Mornings on Friday in an interview with juror Paula Devlin. Host Gayle King, a black woman, was stunned to learn of his skin color. “A black man is a holdout juror,” King said. “Well, I have to sit with that for just a second.” “I’m very fascinated by the holdout juror, learning that he’s a black man today,” she later said, expressing even more shock upon learning that he was in his 30s. Then, NBC Boston began harassing the juror, attempting to contact him at his home, combing through his background, and broadcasting that he had illegally lied on his juror questionnaire, the Gateway Pundit reported. The outlet points to dismissed domestic violence allegations, a restraining order, and a pending eviction case to sow doubt in the fairness of the trial and discredit the juror’s decision. The media is enraged that he was allowed to serve on the jury and that his vote resulted in a mistrial for the child killer. NBC courtroom insider Sue O’Connell was outraged, suggesting that the jurors were not properly vetted.

WATCH: Hakeem Jeffries Gives Word Salad When Asked if Dems Will Impeach Trump on Day One, Claims “We Haven’t Ruled Anything in”
Screenshot House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Sunday tried to dodge a question about impeachment during an interview on CNN’s State of the Union with host Jake Tapper. Instead, he went on a word salad about “accountability,” suggesting that House Democrats will lead investigations, then “let the chips fall where they may.” “We haven’t ruled anything in, and we haven’t ruled anything out in terms of impeachment,” he said. “As it relates to accountability, what we’re going to do, led by Jamie Raskin and House Committee Democrats on the Judiciary Committee, as well as House Democrats on the Oversight Committee, led by Robert Garcia — both of them are doing a tremendous job — we’ve got to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution, and then let the chips fall where they may.” In other words: Yes, the Democrats are going to pursue impeachment starting on day one. Everyone knows of their plans to impeach, but they won’t just flat-out admit it. This comes after Jamie Raskin (D-MD), similarly, attempted to dodge the question of whether Democrats will pursue impeachment last week, saying, “It’s not a fetish with us.” “Look, everybody on our side understands that impeachment is a critical tool in the toolbox for constitutional self-defense against a president acting like a king, an imperious, lawless, arrogant king,” he said, adding, “We will not hesitate to use it if we need to use it.” He then said the quiet part out loud, skipping the investigation and claiming that Trump has “undoubtedly” committed impeachable offenses.
