Civil Society and Patient Groups Call on DOH to Address Recurring TB Drug Stock-Outs, Offer Solutions
TB patient groups and civil society organizations are calling for stronger government action and closer coordination to ensure Filipinos undergoing tuberculosis treatment have reliable access to essential medicines. - Urgent Medicine Access: TB patient groups and civil society organizations are urging the Department of Health to address recurring TB drug stock-outs, warning that treatment interruptions can worsen illness, contribute to drug resistance and create substantial financial burdens for affected Filipino families. - Economic Consequences: A modelling study presented during the discussion estimated that a one-month stock-out of first-line medicines affecting 2,663 patients with drug-sensitive TB could result in approximately US$21 million in economic impact, with households carrying most of the burden. - Bayanihan Approach: Advocates are proposing stronger collaboration among the DOH, local governments, healthcare providers, civil society, patient communities, technical partners and the private sector, alongside improved forecasting, procurement, distribution, stock monitoring and community reporting. Recurring shortages of tuberculosis medicines are prompting TB patient groups and civil society organizations in the Philippines to call for urgent action from the Department of Health, as advocates warn that disruptions in treatment can have consequences extending well beyond individual patients. The call was raised during a roundtable discussion on strengthening reliable and sustainable access to TB medicines held on August 25 at the Bayview Hotel in Manila. The gathering brought together TB-affected communities, civil society organizations, health professionals, local government representatives, technical partners and other stakeholders. "No to TB drug stock-outs!" advocates declared during the event, underscoring their call for sustained efforts to make sure people undergoing TB treatment can continuously access the medicines they need. ## A Recurring Challenge for TB Patients According to Florita Dalida, TB nurse, founder of civil society group TB HEALS and secretary of the Philippine Alliance to Stop TB or PASTB network, medicine supply interruptions have remained a persistent concern. "TB drug stock-outs have been recurring in the Philippines for a decade and have steadily worsened over time," Dalida said. She noted that partner organizations and community groups in different parts of the Philippines have repeatedly reported delayed medicine deliveries and shortages of free first-line TB medicines at health facilities. Dalida called on new Health Secretary Edwin Mercado to make the issue a priority, particularly because interruptions can affect both patients' health and their families' finances. "It is critical for new Health Secretary Edwin Mercado to prioritize this issue. Interruptions in TB treatment can have serious consequences for patients and place significant financial strain on their families," she said. Treatment interruptions can contribute to worsening illness, treatment failure, drug resistance and continued transmission. At the household level, disruptions can also result in additional transportation and healthcare expenses, lost income and higher caregiving costs. ## The Economic Cost of Stock-Outs The financial implications of medicine shortages were also discussed during the roundtable. David Collins, Professor of Global Health at Boston University School of Public Health, presented findings from a 2020 modelling study examining the economic consequences of TB medicine stock-outs and loss to follow-up in the Philippines. According to the study, the economic impact of a one-month stock-out of first-line medicines affecting 2,663 patients with drug-sensitive TB could reach approximately US$21 million. This works out to around US$7,900 per affected patient, with households bearing the majority of the estimated economic burden. Collins noted that these figures were likely to underestimate the full impact. He argued that the benefits of investing in a reliable medicine supply would substantially outweigh the associated costs. The figures help illustrate why drug availability is not simply a logistical concern. When medicines become unavailable, the consequences can spread across healthcare, household finances and the broader effort to control TB. During the discussion, Louie Zepeda-Teng, President of TB People Philippines, emphasized the need for collaboration in addressing TB drug stock-outs, urging different sectors to work together with the government in the spirit of bayanihan. (Credit: Marcus Teng/TB People) ## A Bayanihan Approach to TB Patient groups are also emphasizing that addressing recurring stock-outs should involve cooperation between government and other sectors. Louie Zepeda-Teng, President of TBPeople, TB survivor and advocate, said patient communities, civil society and private organizations are prepared to work alongside government. "We stand ready to collaborate with government because resolving TB drug stock-outs requires a whole-of-society approach," Zepeda-Teng said. "TBPeople is already working closely with patient groups, local government units, private organizations, and foundations. The DOH can harness the spirit of bayanihan (collective effort) and mobilize all stakeholders to help address this challenge." Representatives of PASTB and TBPeople formally presented petitions addressed to the DOH during the event, calling for action on recurring medicine shortages and uninterrupted access to TB treatment. ## Fixing the Supply Chain Participants identified multiple points in the medicines supply chain where challenges can emerge, including forecasting, procurement, distribution, stock monitoring and eventual availability at healthcare facilities. Dr. Richard Castro, head of the Manila Health Department TB Control and Prevention program, highlighted the important role of the national government in procurement. "It is the national government that has the capacity and responsibility to purchase TB drugs at scale. Local governments can only make emergency purchases of up to 10% of supply needs," Castro said. Meanwhile, Dr. Marizel Wong of the Quezon City Health Department discussed Quezon City's experience in maintaining first-line TB medicine supplies, including the investments and local systems needed to support availability. During the discussion, Quezon City was presented as an example of an LGU that has experienced minimal interruptions in first-line TB medicine availability. ## Community Reporting as Part of the Solution Technology, data gathering and community reporting could also contribute to detecting medicine shortages before they become more disruptive. Claire Waterhouse of Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières shared lessons from South Africa's Stop Stockouts Project. The civil society-led initiative used community reporting and verification of medicine shortages to generate evidence that could be used in engagement with health authorities. Participants discussed whether elements of this model could be adapted to the Philippine setting and incorporated into the existing activities of local civil society and patient organizations. They agreed on the need for a similar community-led initiative that could build upon the networks and activities of existing local CSOs. Such an approach could give communities a more active role in identifying shortages while helping stakeholders gather evidence about where and when medicine supply problems occur. ## Stronger Coordination Moving Forward One of the central messages from the roundtable was the need for stronger coordination among the national government, LGUs, healthcare providers, patient groups, civil society organizations, technical partners and other stakeholders. Participants also discussed how civil society organizations could work more collectively by combining their community networks, evidence and advocacy efforts. This cooperation could extend beyond medicine availability to other parts of the TB care cascade, including prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. The roundtable was organized by Doctors Without Borders and PASTB as a starting point for further engagement with the DOH and other partners on practical and sustainable ways of strengthening access to TB medicines. Other participants included the Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis or PhilCAT, Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. or PTSI, World Health Organization, local government units, TB-affected communities, technical partners and health professionals. For patients who depend on uninterrupted treatment, reliable access to medicines is ultimately more than a supply-chain concern. The discussion highlighted how stronger procurement, monitoring, community participation and coordination could work together toward one essential objective: making sure TB patients can continue their treatment when they need it. --- Source: TechPinas : Philippines' Technology News, Tips and Reviews Blog ~ Also, check out: AsiaTechConnect and MustSee Philippines

Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Philippines Official Prices, Specs, and Features
Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bring the A20 Pro chip, variable-aperture camera technology, Siri AI, upgraded Dynamic Island, and major battery improvements to Apple's flagship smartphone line. - Pro Camera: Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max introduce Apple's new 48 MegaPixels Fusion Main Camera with variable aperture, giving users greater control over depth of field and lighting while bringing more advanced manual photography options to the Camera app. - A20 Pro: Both flagship models run on the new 2 nm Apple A20 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, Dual 16-core Neural Engine, and a next-generation vapor chamber designed to deliver major gains in graphics, AI processing, and sustained performance. - Two Sizes: iPhone 18 Pro provides the core Pro experience in a smaller 6.3-inch form factor, while iPhone 18 Pro Max stretches the display to 6.9 inches and delivers significantly longer battery life, with Philippine prices starting at PHP 94,990 and PHP 99,990, respectively. Apple's annual Pro iPhone refresh has arrived, and this generation puts some of its biggest upgrades exactly where demanding users are likely to notice them. The new Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max combine a more sophisticated camera system, A20 Pro processing power, improved thermal management, longer battery life, and a more capable version of Siri through iOS 27. Although the two phones share most of their underlying technologies, Apple is once again giving buyers a choice between a more manageable Pro device and a substantially larger Pro Max. The difference goes beyond physical dimensions because battery life is another major differentiator between the two. ## Apple iPhone 18 Pro: Pro Power in a More Compact Package The iPhone 18 Pro is the smaller member of Apple's new professional flagship duo. It measures 150 x 71.9 x 8.8 mm and weighs 211 grams, making it considerably more compact and lighter than the Pro Max while retaining essentially the same flagship platform and camera hardware. Its 6.3-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display has a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, plus brightness reaching 3000 nits at peak. Ceramic Shield 2 protects the display, complemented by an anti-reflective coating. Inside is Apple's new A20 Pro built using a 2 nm process. The chipset combines a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the GPU is up to 40 percent faster than the A19 Pro, while the new chip provides 50 percent more memory bandwidth. Apple has also redesigned the thermal architecture. A next-generation vapor chamber with three times more surface area than the previous generation works directly with the A20 Pro packaging to improve heat dissipation and sustained performance. ## Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max: Bigger Screen, Bigger Battery For users who want Apple's biggest conventional flagship, the iPhone 18 Pro Max expands the display to 6.9 inches. Its LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED panel has a 1320 x 2868 pixel resolution and the same 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10, Dolby Vision, Ceramic Shield 2 protection, and anti-reflective coating found on the smaller Pro. Naturally, that additional screen real estate results in a larger body. The Pro Max measures 163.4 x 78 x 8.8 mm and weighs 249 grams, compared with 211 grams for the Pro. The larger chassis, however, creates room for one of the Pro Max's biggest advantages. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers the largest increase in battery life ever on an iPhone. eSIM-only versions can provide up to 45 hours of video playback, compared with up to 36 hours on the corresponding iPhone 18 Pro. Aside from these differences, the Pro Max shares the same A20 Pro platform, storage configurations, camera system, connectivity technologies, and iOS 27 experience as its smaller sibling. ## Variable Aperture Comes to iPhone Photography is one of the biggest stories of this generation. Both phones feature a 48 MegaPixels Fusion Main Camera with variable aperture, marking the first time Apple has offered aperture control on an iPhone. Six laser-cut blades controlled by a new rotor mechanism allow the camera to transition smoothly between different apertures. The system can automatically adjust according to depth of field and lighting, while more experienced photographers can manually choose from four aperture settings inside the Camera app. Apple says the camera can intelligently widen to f/1.48 for low-light photography. The rest of the rear setup includes a 48 MegaPixels periscope telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom and a 48 MegaPixels ultra-wide camera. A TOF 3D LiDAR scanner provides depth information. Apple is also introducing Pro controls in the Camera app. Users can directly adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance while accessing a histogram for checking exposure. Video remains equally ambitious, with support for 4K recording at up to 120fps, Dolby Vision HDR, ProRes, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and spatial video and audio. ## Apple Reference Image Takes Aim at Photo Authenticity One particularly interesting addition is Apple Reference Image, a feature designed to help determine whether a photograph has been edited. The Main Camera's new sensor can sign every pixel it sees. When Reference mode is used, signed sensor information is processed through Private Cloud Compute to produce what Apple describes as an unalterable reference image. Users can view this reference alongside the primary photograph in Photos, effectively providing a digital negative for comparison. Combined with image metadata and upcoming support for the SynthID standard, Apple is positioning the feature as another way to help identify content that has been generated or altered using AI. That could be especially relevant for photographers and photojournalists, but its usefulness potentially extends to everyday users at a time when manipulated imagery is becoming increasingly difficult to identify. ## Smaller Dynamic Island, More Information The Dynamic Island has also been redesigned on the iPhone 18 Pro generation. Apple says advanced display technology has allowed it to make the Dynamic Island smaller while simultaneously making it more useful. It can now display as many as three Live Activities at once. Face ID remains integrated into the system for securely unlocking the phone, authenticating purchases, and signing into applications. ## A20 Pro and Next-Generation Connectivity The 2 nm A20 Pro is paired with Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. Apple's new C2 cellular modem system also makes its debut. According to Apple, C2 brings AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability, provides meaningfully faster uploads than C1X, consumes 15 percent less energy, and supports mmWave in the United States. Both models come with 12GB RAM and choices of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of internal storage. ## Siri AI and iOS 27 Software plays an equally important role in Apple's pitch for its newest Pro devices. Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27 and represents an entirely new version of Apple's assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. It can use personal context to help users find information across messages, emails, photos, and other content. Onscreen awareness allows Siri AI to understand and act on information currently displayed on the device, while Siri mode in the Camera app can provide information and perform actions based on what the camera sees. Apple Intelligence also brings Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an upgraded Clean Up for photographs, while Image Playground gains photorealistic imagery. Safari's Notify Me feature can monitor webpages for changes such as product restocks and price drops. Apple says its AI approach continues to emphasize privacy through a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. ## Same Pro DNA, Different Priorities Choosing between the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max ultimately comes down largely to size and battery priorities because their core specifications are remarkably similar. Both feature A20 Pro, 12GB RAM, the triple 48 MegaPixels rear camera system, 18 MegaPixels selfie camera, 120Hz LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2, and iOS 27. The Pro offers these capabilities in a smaller 6.3-inch package weighing 211 grams. The Pro Max gives buyers a 6.9-inch screen and substantially larger battery configuration, but its weight rises to 249 grams. For buyers who prioritize a smaller premium handset without sacrificing Apple's new Pro camera and processing technologies, the iPhone 18 Pro presents the more compact option. Those who prefer the largest display and longest possible battery life can instead move up to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. ## Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Availability in the Philippines Apple has officially revealed the Philippine pricing of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with both models starting at 256GB and now offering storage options all the way up to 2TB. The Apple iPhone 18 Pro is priced at PHP 94,990 for 256GB, PHP 110,990 for 512GB, PHP 142,990 for 1TB, and PHP 189,990 for the top-of-the-line 2TB configuration. For those who prefer the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max, prices naturally sit a little higher across all storage capacities. The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max carries an official Philippine price of PHP 99,990 for 256GB, PHP 115,990 for 512GB, PHP 147,990 for 1TB, and PHP 194,990 for 2TB. This means the Pro Max commands a consistent PHP 5,000 premium over the corresponding iPhone 18 Pro configuration, making the choice between the two largely dependent on the buyer's preferred size and overall experience. As of September 10, 2026, Apple Philippines has already published the official local prices for both models on its website, although the company is still displaying a "Check back later for availability" notice. This means Filipino Apple fans already know exactly how much to prepare for their preferred iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max configuration, but the official local pre-order and release schedule has yet to be announced. Both models will be offered in Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy colorways once they become available in the Philippines. ## Apple iPhone 18 Pro Specs DESIGN Dimensions: 150 x 71.9 x 8.8 mm Weight: 211 grams Build: Glass Front (Ceramic Shield 2), Aluminum Frame, Aluminum Back / Glass Back (Ceramic Shield) Durability: IP68 Dust Tight And Water Resistant, Immersible Up To 6 Meters For 30 Minutes Colorways: Black, Silver, Glacier, Burgundy DISPLAY Size: 6.3 Inches, 96.4 cm², ~89.4% Screen-To-Body Ratio Resolution: 1206 x 2622 Pixels, 19.5:9 Ratio, ~460 ppi Density Type: LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED Refresh Rate: 120Hz HDR: HDR10, Dolby Vision Brightness: 1000 Nits Typical, 1600 Nits HBM, 3000 Nits Peak Protection: Ceramic Shield 2 Anti-Reflective Coating: Yes PLATFORM Operating System: iOS 27 Chipset: Apple A20 Pro (2 nm) CPU: Hexa-Core GPU: Apple GPU (7-Core Graphics) MEMORY RAM: 12GB Internal Storage: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB Card Slot: No Storage Technology: NVMe MAIN CAMERA MegaPixels: 48 MegaPixels + 48 MegaPixels + 48 MegaPixels Wide: 48 MegaPixels, f/1.5-4.0, 24mm, 1/1.28", 1.22µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, Sensor-Shift OIS Gen2 Periscope Telephoto: 48 MegaPixels, f/2.8, 100mm, 1/2.55", 0.7µm, PDAF, 3D Sensor-Shift OIS, 4x Optical Zoom Ultra-Wide: 48 MegaPixels, f/2.2, 13mm, 120˚, 1/2.55", 0.7µm, PDAF LiDAR: TOF 3D LiDAR Scanner Video: 4K 24/25/30/60/100/120fps, 1080p 25/30/60/120/240fps, 10-Bit HDR, Dolby Vision HDR Up To 120fps, ProRes, ProRes RAW Up To 120fps, Apple Log 2, 3D Spatial Video/Audio SELFIE CAMERA MegaPixels: 18 MegaPixels Camera: 18 MegaPixels Multi-Aspect, f/1.9, 20mm Ultra-Wide, PDAF Biometrics Sensor: SL 3D Video: 4K 24/25/30/60fps, 1080p 25/30/60/120fps, Gyro-EIS COMMUNICATIONS SIM: nano-SIM + eSIM + eSIM, Maximum 2 At A Time International; Apple iPhone Duo Philippines Price, Specs, Features - First Foldable iPhone Starts at PHP 159,990
Apple iPhone Duo marks Apple's long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone category, combining a pocketable 5.4-inch outer display with a massive 7.6-inch folding screen, A20 Pro performance, and an entirely reworked iOS 27 experience. - First Foldable: Apple has officially introduced its first foldable iPhone, pairing a compact 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display with a much larger 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR screen designed for entertainment, productivity, gaming, and multitasking. - Flagship Hardware: Powered by the Apple A20 Pro chipset, iPhone Duo brings a titanium construction, dual 48 MegaPixels rear cameras, sophisticated thermal management, dual-battery architecture, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, IP68 protection, and storage options reaching a massive 2TB. - Philippine Pricing: Apple iPhone Duo starts at PHP 159,990 for 256GB, followed by PHP 175,990 for 512GB, PHP 207,990 for 1TB, and PHP 254,990 for 2TB, placing Apple's first foldable firmly in the ultra-premium smartphone category. After years of speculation about when Apple would finally enter the foldable smartphone race, the answer has arrived in the form of the Apple iPhone Duo, a completely new take on the iPhone that opens into Apple's largest smartphone display yet. Interestingly, earlier rumors suggested that Apple's foldable could be called the "iPhone Ultra." Those reports ultimately turned out to be inaccurate when it came to the final product name. Still, many of the more substantial leaks surrounding Apple's foldable ambitions proved remarkably close to the finished device, including its book-style folding form factor and positioning as an ultra-premium member of the iPhone family. What Apple officially unveiled is the iPhone Duo, and its name arguably makes sense once you see the concept in action. It is essentially designed around two complementary ways of using an iPhone: a compact smartphone when folded and a much larger mobile workspace when opened. ## Two Displays Transform the iPhone Experience The centerpiece is a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display, the largest display Apple has ever placed on an iPhone. Fold the device closed and users instead interact with a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display. The inner display measures 50 percent larger than that of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the outer screen provides 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Both displays support ProMotion and Always On functionality along with up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. A nano-texture finish on the inner display also helps minimize glare, reflections, and the visibility of the crease. Apple has even designed both displays with the same aspect ratio so content can scale proportionally as users move between folded and unfolded modes. Later this year, iPhone Duo is also expected to support Apple Pencil with USB-C for taking notes, sketching, and marking up documents. Touch ID makes a notable return as the primary biometric authentication system, integrated into the side button so it remains conveniently accessible regardless of whether the device is folded or open. ## Titanium Construction and Precision Hinge Apple has naturally placed considerable emphasis on durability considering that a hinge and folding display introduce moving parts that conventional iPhones simply do not have. iPhone Duo uses grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish. Its hinge consists of more than 100 components engineered to control opening and closing while supporting the center of the display. Ceramic Shield protects the rear, while Ceramic Shield 2 is used on the outer display. The device also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The inner folding display combines a scratch-resistant coating with a nano-textured custom polymer cover layer, high-strength glass, custom adhesives, and a titanium plate to strengthen the overall structure. For buyers who want Apple's first foldable to look understated rather than overly flashy, there are just two refined colorways: Star White and Night Sky. ## A20 Pro Performance Meets Foldable Multitasking Inside is Apple's A20 Pro, the same chipset powering the iPhone 18 Pro models. The 2-nanometer processor combines a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the CPU is up to 20 percent faster than A19 Pro, while the GPU is up to 40 percent faster and more power efficient. The Neural Engine delivers twice the compute power for on-device AI models, while unified memory bandwidth has increased by 50 percent. That performance becomes particularly important because iPhone Duo introduces forms of multitasking previously unavailable on iPhone. With Split View, two apps can run side by side. Users can swap between apps, open two windows from the same application, save app pairs, or even converse with Siri AI on one side while viewing another app on the other. iOS 27 has consequently been redesigned for the foldable format. Controls, app navigation, the status bar, Dynamic Island, Home Screen, and other interface elements adapt depending on the device's orientation and whether it is folded or unfolded. ## Dual 48 MegaPixels Camera System The foldable form also changes how users can take photos and videos. The main camera system consists of a 48 MegaPixels Fusion Main camera and 48 MegaPixels Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main shooter supports an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option, sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and shooting at up to 48 MegaPixels resolution. The Ultra Wide camera can capture broader perspectives and macro photographs. Meanwhile, the folding design allows users to take selfies using the higher-resolution rear cameras while using the outer screen as their preview. Other foldable-specific camera experiences include Duo Preview, Smart Take, Kid Cue, and Duo FaceTime. Video recording reaches 4K at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision through the Fusion Main camera. ## Apple Intelligence and Siri AI Apple Intelligence naturally plays a major role in Apple's vision for the Duo. Siri AI can use personal context to search across messages, emails, photos, and other information, while onscreen awareness allows it to understand and act on what users are currently viewing. Users can also write with Siri by describing what they need. Apple Intelligence introduces other tools including Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an upgraded Clean Up for photos, while Image Playground gains support for photorealistic imagery. Safari's Notify Me can even monitor webpages for changes such as restocks and price drops. Apple iPhone Duo in Night Sky colorway ## Dual Batteries and Modern Connectivity The unusual form factor also required Apple to rethink battery placement. Instead of concentrating the battery on one side, iPhone Duo has one high-energy battery on each half of the device. Apple rates it for up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner screen, up to 44 hours using the outer display, or up to 24 hours when both screens are used equally. Fast charging can bring the battery to 50 percent in around 20 minutes, while MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging can reach 50 percent in approximately 30 minutes. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple's N1 wireless networking chip, along with the C2 cellular modem system. Interestingly, iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide, eliminating the physical SIM card slot. ## Apple iPhone Duo Price in the Philippines For Filipino Apple fans, this technological leap comes with an equally substantial price tag. The Apple iPhone Duo starts at PHP 159,990 for the 256GB configuration. Moving up to 512GB brings the price to PHP 175,990, while the 1TB model costs PHP 207,990. At the very top sits the huge 2TB configuration at PHP 254,990. The device is expected to launch locally through network carriers and Apple's official resellers. For TechPinas readers looking to purchase from an authorized retail channel, Beyond The Box remains our preferred and trusted Apple reseller. Apple officially announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, with its international release expected on October 23, 2026 in key markets. Given its pricing, iPhone Duo clearly is not intended to replace the mainstream iPhone overnight. Instead, it represents a new ultra-premium direction for Apple's smartphone family and perhaps the clearest indication yet of how the company envisions the iPhone evolving beyond its familiar rectangular form. ## Apple iPhone Duo Specs Highlights Design: Foldable form factor, Grade 5 Titanium frame and hinge, Ceramic Shield rear, Ceramic Shield 2 outer display, IP68 Colorways: Star White, Night Sky Dimensions: 117.8 x 164.6 x 5.2 mm unfolded; 117.8 x 84.1 x 11.3 mm folded Weight: 254 grams Main Display: 7.6-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED Main Resolution: 1878 x 2670 pixels Cover Display: 5.4-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED Cover Resolution: 1398 x 2034 pixels Refresh Rate: 120Hz Peak Brightness: 3,000 nits Processor: Apple A20 Pro, 2nm CPU: Hexa-core GPU: Apple 7-core GPU RAM: 12GB Internal Storage: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB Memory Expansion: None Rear Cameras: 48 MegaPixels Fusion Main + 48 MegaPixels Fusion Ultra Wide Cover Camera: 12 MegaPixels Video Recording: Up to 4K 120fps on main camera Operating System: iOS 27 Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, NFC, USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 Audio: Stereo Speakers SIM: eSIM + eSIM, up to two active at a time Privacy and Security: Side-mounted Touch ID, Emergency SOS, Messages and Find My via satellite Sensors: Fingerprint, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, Compass, Barometer Charging: Wired fast charging, 50 percent in around 20 minutes; 25W MagSafe/Qi2 wireless charging, 50 percent in around 30 minutes ## Apple iPhone Duo Full Specs LAUNCH Announced: September 9, 2026 Status: Coming Soon, Expected Release October 23, 2026 DESIGN Dimensions: Unfolded: 117.8 x 164.6 x 5.2 mm; Folded: 117.8 x 84.1 x 11.3 mm Weight: 254 grams Build: Glass Front (Ceramic Shield 2) When Folded, Grade 5 Titanium Frame And Hinge, Glass Back (Ceramic Shield) Durability: IP68 Dust Tight And Water Resistant, Immersible Up To 6 Meters For 30 Minutes Stylus Support: Yes Colorways: Night Sky, Star White MAIN DISPLAY Size: 7.6 Inches, 175.4 cm², ~90.4% Screen-To-Body Ratio Resolution: 1878 x 2670 Pixels, ~430 ppi Density Type: LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED Refresh Rate: 120Hz HDR: HDR10, Dolby Vision Brightness: 1000 Nits Typical, 1600 Nits HBM, 3000 Nits Peak Protection: Nano Texture Finish Anti-Reflective Coating: Yes Wide-Angle OLED: Yes Display Crease: Small COVER DISPLAY Size: 5.4 Inches Resolution: 1398 x 2034 Pixels, 460 ppi Type: LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED Refresh Rate: 120Hz HDR: HDR10, Dolby Vision Brightness: 1000 Nits Typical, 1600 Nits HBM, 3000 Nits Peak Protection: Ceramic Shield 2 Anti-Reflective Coating: Yes PLATFORM Operating System: iOS 27 Chipset: Apple A20 Pro (2 nm) CPU: Hexa-Core (2x GHz High Performance + 4x GHz) GPU: Apple GPU (7-Core Graphics) MEMORY RAM: 12GB Internal Storage: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB Card Slot: No MAIN CAMERA MegaPixels: 48 MegaPixels + 48 MegaPixels Wide: 48 MegaPixels, f/1.6, 26mm, 1/1.28", 1.22µm, PDAF, Sensor-Shift OIS (Gen2) Ultra-Wide: 48 MegaPixels, f/2.2, 13mm, 120˚, 1/2.55", 0.7µm, PDAF Flash: Dual-LED Dual-Tone Flash HDR: Photo / Panorama Video: 4K 24/25/30/60/100/120fps, 1080p 25/30/60/120/240fps, 10-Bit HDR, Dolby Vision HDR Up To 120fps, ProRes, 3D Spatial Video/Audio, Stereo Sound Recording SELFIE CAMERA MegaPixels: XX MegaPixels Under-Display Camera + 12 MegaPixels Cover Camera Under-Display Camera: XX MegaPixels, f/1.8 Under-Display Camera Video: 1080p 30/60fps Cover Camera: 12 MegaPixels Multi-Aspect, f/2.2, Wide, AF HDR: Yes Dolby Vision HDR: Yes Spatial Audio: Yes Stereo Sound Recording: Yes Video: 4K 24/25/30/60fps, 1080p 25/30/60/120fps, Gyro-EIS AUDIO Loudspeaker: Yes, With Stereo Speakers 3.5mm Jack: No COMMUNICATIONS SIM: eSIM + eSIM, 8 Or More Supported, Maximum 2 At A Time WLAN: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6e/7, Tri-Band, Hotspot Bluetooth: 6.0, A2DP, LE Positioning: GPS (L1+L5), GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, QZSS, NavIC NFC: Yes Radio: No USB: USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2, DisplayPort PRIVACY AND SECURITY Fingerprint Scanner: Yes, Side-Mounted Facial Recognition: Yes Pattern and Passcode Unlock: Yes SENSORS Accelerometer: Yes Gyroscope: Yes Proximity Sensor: Yes Compass: Yes Barometer: Yes OTHER FEATURES Messaging: iMessage, SMS Threaded View, MMS, Email, Push Email Browser: HTML5 Safari Ultra Wideband: UWB Support With Gen2 Chip Emergency Features: Emergency SOS, Messages And Find My Via Satellite BATTERY Type: Li-Ion Wired Charging: PD3.2, AVS, 50% In 20 Minutes Wireless Charging: 25W MagSafe/Qi2, 50% In 30 Minutes ## Apple iPhone Duo Prices in the Philippines 256GB: PHP 159,990 512GB: PHP 175,990 1TB: PHP 207,990 2TB: PHP 254,990 Expected Release Date in Key Markets (hopefully, including the Philippines): October 23, 2027 onwards With prices topping out beyond a quarter of a million pesos, Apple iPhone Duo immediately establishes itself as one of Apple's most ambitious premium smartphones yet. INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT AND STREAMING
Star Digital Solutions Powers 9.9 E-Commerce Push with Livestream Shopping
Star Digital Solutions gears up for the 9.9 Mega Campaign as brands increasingly tap e-commerce, creators, livestream shopping, and performance marketing to reach Filipino consumers and drive online growth. - 9.9 E-Commerce: Star Digital Solutions is gearing up for the 9.9 Mega Campaign with more than 100 livestream sessions covering over 1,000 livestream hours, bringing together creators, brand-led activations, shop management, content, and performance marketing. - Livestream Growth: As Filipino shoppers increasingly discover products through livestreams, short-form content, creators, and social commerce, SDS is integrating entertainment and commerce to help brands turn digital attention into engagement and ultimately into sales. - Digital Ecosystem: With capabilities spanning MCN and TSP operations, store management, livestream commerce, media buying, creative production, creator partnerships, warehousing, and fulfillment, SDS is building an end-to-end ecosystem for brands navigating Philippine e-commerce. The Star Digital Solutions (SDS) team is going big for 9.9 as the Philippine online shopping scene gears up for one of its major e-commerce moments of the year. Recognized as a top MCN and TikTok Shop Partner or TSP agency in the Philippines, SDS is bringing brands, creators, livestreaming, content, and performance marketing together for the 9.9 Mega Campaign. Its growing portfolio covers major accounts across FMCG, beauty and personal care, fashion, health, and technology, reflecting how e-commerce is increasingly becoming more than an additional place to sell products. For brands, the digital storefront can now play a wider role in building awareness, acquiring customers, and generating revenue. This shift is particularly interesting from a technology perspective because the modern e-commerce journey is becoming increasingly interconnected. Content, creators, online stores, livestreams, paid media, fulfillment, and other digital touchpoints can now work together as parts of a broader commerce strategy. ## Powering Up for the 9.9 Online Shopping Rush For the 9.9 Mega Campaign, Star Digital Solutions is preparing more than 100 livestream sessions covering over 1,000 livestream hours through creator and brand-led activations. According to the company, this is almost double its livestream activity during the recently held 6.6 mega campaign. SDS is combining shop management, livestream commerce, performance marketing, content creation, creatives, and production as brands prepare to compete for attention and purchases during the campaign. The strategy goes beyond simply generating traffic. By bringing commerce, content, creators, and paid media together, SDS aims to help brands build an integrated digital presence that can move consumers from discovering a product to engaging with it and eventually making a purchase. That approach becomes particularly relevant during major online shopping events such as 9.9, 10.10, 11.11, and 12.12, when numerous brands simultaneously compete for both consumer spending and digital visibility. ## Where Content Meets Commerce In less than two years, Star Digital Solutions has built capabilities across store and shop management, brand-led and creator-led livestream commerce, creative development and production, media planning and buying, affiliate and influencer marketing, as well as warehousing and fulfillment. This puts the agency at the intersection of commerce and entertainment, two increasingly connected elements of online shopping. Rather than positioning livestreaming as a standalone promotional tool, SDS integrates live sessions into broader e-commerce and marketing strategies with the goal of maximizing content and conversion. The agency has worked on livestream campaigns featuring personalities and creators including Denise Laurel, Criza Taa, Iwa Moto, Bea Borres, Lauren Young, Nadine Lustre, Rei Germar, Luis Manzano, BINI, and Jelly Eugenio. SDS says some of its livestream campaigns have contributed to record-breaking sales performances for content creators, demonstrating the commercial potential of creator-led shopping experiences. Scott Adrian So, COO of Star Digital Solutions, explained the teamwork behind this model: “A successful livestream is never the work of one person or department—it is the result of synergy. From hosts and creatives to operations, performance, and production, every function must work toward one objective. When teams move as one, a livestream becomes more than a broadcast—it becomes a complete commerce experience that turns attention into engagement and engagement into sales.” ## E-Commerce Becomes a Brand Growth Engine Consumers are increasingly discovering products through short-form videos, livestreams, creator recommendations, and social commerce platforms. For brands, this means an online presence alone may no longer be enough. The different parts of the digital customer journey increasingly need to connect. Star Digital Solutions currently manages key accounts from brands under or including L’Oréal Group, P&G, Unilever, Nestlé, Christy Ng, Rejuran, ROUND LAB, Strokes Beauty Lab, BLK Cosmetics, and Happy Skin, among others. Kevin Richard Lim, CEO of Star Digital Solutions, said: “E-commerce in the Philippines is no longer just a sales channel—it is becoming a critical driver of brand growth. As consumers increasingly discover products through content, creators, and livestreams, brands need more than an online presence; they need a commerce strategy that connects discovery, engagement, and conversion. At Star Digital Solutions, we continue to invest in e-commerce, livestream commerce, performance marketing, and creator capabilities to help brands turn that opportunity into growth.” .png) (Left to right: COO– Scott Adrian So, CEO– Kevin Richard Lim, BD Manager– Micaela Angela Padua, KLS Manager– Maybeline Marvilla, SOM– Zebedy Rafael San Agustin) ## Building for Philippine E-Commerce Behind the technology, platforms, and digital strategies are also the teams tasked with bringing these different pieces together. SDS sees this combination of people and technology as an important part of executing campaigns that extend beyond individual shopping events. Zebedy Rafael San Agustin, Senior Operations Manager of Star Digital Solutions, shared: “Technology, data, and strategy drive performance, but people drive success. At Star Digital Solutions, we believe in understanding our brands, creators, hosts, and consumers—and bringing their strengths together with the right direction. Our people-first approach enables us to build campaigns that deliver results while creating partnerships and capabilities that last beyond a single campaign.” With MCN and TSP operations, store and shop management, livestream commerce, media planning and buying, creative production, creator partnerships, warehousing, and fulfillment under its growing ecosystem, SDS is positioning itself to serve brands looking to scale their digital commerce activities. The 9.9 Mega Campaign provides another major test of that model. As brands battle for screens, clicks, views, and purchases, Star Digital Solutions is betting on a connected approach where content creates attention, livestreams encourage engagement, and e-commerce technology helps turn that momentum into measurable business. For the Philippine e-commerce space, 9.9 offers another glimpse at how technology, creators, entertainment, and commerce are increasingly coming together to shape the way Filipinos discover and buy products online. --- Source: TechPinas : Philippines' Technology News, Tips and Reviews Blog ~ Also, check out: AsiaTechConnect and MustSee Philippines

Smart Postpaid Apple Watch Plans Bring Connectivity, Health, and Apple Pay to Your Wrist
Smart brings the latest Apple Watch lineup closer to Filipinos through Postpaid Plans with Device, Smart Device Link, Apple Pay, and Smart 5G, enabling connectivity, health monitoring, and convenient payments right from the wrist. - Wrist Connectivity: Smart Device Link lets compatible Apple Watch users share their primary mobile number and plan with their smartwatch for PHP 199 per month, allowing calls, texts, and mobile data even when their iPhone is not nearby. - Latest Lineup: The Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are now available with Smart Postpaid Plans with Device starting at Plan 999, with monthly device payments starting at PHP 692, PHP 1,321, and PHP 2,275, respectively. - Beyond Smartphones: Combining Apple Watch health, fitness, safety, and wellness features with Apple Pay and Smart 5G gives Filipinos more ways to manage everyday digital activities directly from their wrist. For many Filipinos, the smartwatch has evolved from being a simple smartphone companion into a device that can help keep them connected, monitor important health and fitness information, and even handle everyday payments. Smart Communications, Inc. is tapping into this growing wrist-first digital lifestyle by offering the latest Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 alongside Smart Device Link, Apple Pay, and its 5G network. The combination brings several everyday functions together on the wrist. Depending on the Apple Watch model and services being used, subscribers can make calls, send texts, access mobile data, keep track of health and fitness information, use safety features, and make contactless payments without constantly reaching for their iPhone. Lloyd R. Manaloto, FVP and OIC for Smart, said, “With the digital lifestyle evolving beyond the smartphone, connectivity is no longer limited to the device in our pocket. With Apple Watch, Smart Device Link, and Apple Pay, we’re giving Filipinos more freedom to stay connected, stay on top of their health, and manage everyday tasks right from their wrist.” ## Latest Apple Watch Models on Smart Postpaid Smart is making the latest Apple Watch lineup available through its Postpaid Plans with Device, starting at Plan 999. The choices cover different types of users, from those looking for essential smartwatch capabilities to customers who want more advanced health, fitness, and outdoor features. Subscribers can get the Apple Watch SE 3 starting at PHP 692 per month, while the Apple Watch Series 11 starts at PHP 1,321 per month. For those interested in Apple's more rugged smartwatch offering, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 starts at PHP 2,275 per month. Customers may also take advantage of 0% installment plans through participating bank partners. For users who want to build or complete their Apple ecosystem, iPhones are likewise available through participating Smart channels. ## Stay Connected Without Your iPhone One of the most useful parts of the experience is Smart Device Link, particularly for people who want their Apple Watch to remain connected even when their iPhone is not nearby. For PHP 199 per month, Smart Device Link allows Apple Watch users to share their primary mobile number and plan with their smartwatch. This enables calls, texts, and mobile data directly from the Apple Watch, giving subscribers more freedom to leave their phone behind when appropriate while remaining reachable. First-time Smart Device Link users can also enjoy a FREE six-month trial until September 30. Activation instructions are available through Smart's Device Link page. This capability can make the Apple Watch more useful during workouts, quick errands, or other moments when carrying an iPhone may not be ideal. Instead of relying solely on a nearby smartphone for connectivity, users can access essential mobile services directly from their wrist. ## Health, Fitness, Safety, and Wellness Connectivity is only one side of the Apple Watch experience. The lineup also offers health, fitness, safety, and wellness capabilities, although specific features vary depending on the model. Available capabilities across the lineup range from heart rate and sleep tracking to ECG, Sleep Score, workout tracking, Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS. These features give users another convenient way to stay informed about their daily activities, wellness, and fitness routines. The Apple Watch SE 3 is positioned around essential health, fitness, safety, and connectivity features. Apple Watch Series 11 moves up to more advanced health and fitness capabilities designed for everyday use, while Apple Watch Ultra 3 is built with demanding sports and outdoor activities in mind. The range gives Smart subscribers flexibility in choosing an Apple Watch based on their needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. ## Apple Pay Right on the Wrist Apple Watch can also serve as a convenient payment device through Apple Pay. Users can make secure, contactless payments directly from their smartwatch, adding another practical function to a device they may already be wearing throughout the day. This means the Apple Watch can increasingly handle tasks that traditionally required pulling out a smartphone or another item. Connectivity, wellness tracking, fitness features, safety tools, and payments can all be accessible from the wrist, depending on the model and services being used. For Filipinos embracing a more connected digital lifestyle, that convenience could be one of the biggest reasons to consider integrating an Apple Watch more deeply into their everyday routine. ## Enhanced by Smart 5G Smart says the Apple Watch experience is further enhanced by Smart 5G, providing connectivity across Apple Watch, iPhone, and other digital services whether subscribers are working, exercising, traveling, or simply going about their day. The mobile services provider was also recently recognized by global connectivity intelligence leader Ookla for delivering the Best Mobile Video Experience in the Philippines for the first half of 2026. Smart registered a Video Score of 72.82, the highest among mobile operators in the country during the period. Together, the latest Apple Watch devices, Smart Device Link, Apple Pay, and Smart 5G highlight how the connected lifestyle is steadily moving beyond the smartphone. For users who already rely heavily on Apple's ecosystem, having more connectivity and everyday functionality directly on the wrist could make the smartwatch an even more useful part of their daily routine. The Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are available with Smart Postpaid Plans with Device starting at Plan 999 through the Smart Online Store and Smart Stores.
