Four timber-clad projects by Parnagian Architects: Your Next Employer?
Following our previous visit to Beyer Blinder Belle, we are moving our Meet Your Next Employer series to New Jersey this week to explore the work of Parnagian Architects. Based in Red Bank, the firm has amassed a portfolio anchored by projects in coastal environments of New Jersey, across residential, hospitality, recreational, and commercial uses. “Each project is approached anew as we seek to create buildings that feel familiar, yet unexpected,” the firm says. “We are also pragmatists who love to build and, frankly, get things done.” Over on Archinect Jobs, the firm is currently hiring for a Project Architect / Architectural Designer to join their Red Bank team. For candidates interested in applying for a position or anybody interested in learning more about the firm’s output, we have rounded up four timber-clad projects by Parnagian Architects that exemplify the firm’s ethos. OMA to convert historic Houston coffee plant into music and arts school
Construction has begun on the Frank Liu Jr. Academy for Music and Arts, or FLAMA, in Houston, Texas. Designed by OMA, the scheme will transform a 1930s J.A. Folger & Co. coffee plant into a 65,120-square-foot educational facility. Completion is expected by August 2027, and marks the second high-profile OMA project in Houston recently, following their POST Houston project. Image credit: Out of RAM Image credit: Out of RAM Located along the Buffalo Bayou East corridor, the project will retain elements of the historic industrial structure while introducing new spaces for music and arts education. The three-story building is organized around Montessori-inspired principles, with younger students occupying lower levels and older students progressing upward. Classrooms are arranged around shared gathering spaces described as “cymbals,” which accommodate informal learning, collaboration, and performances. Inside a minimalist desert residence in Utah inspired by land art
Los Angeles-based Woods + Dangaran has completed a minimalist desert residence in Southern Utah near Zion National Park. Embedded into the desert terrain, the elongated profile is designed to integrate with the surrounding landscape while framing views of the nearby mesa and southern desert horizon. Led by Brett Woods and Joseph Dangaran, the firm is a previous participant in our Studio Snapshot series. Image credit: William Jess Laird Image credit: William Jess Laird The scheme takes the form of a low-lying horizontal structure positioned against a 1,200-foot mesa. Drawing inspiration from large-scale land art installations, including Michael Heizer’s City in Nevada and works by Richard Serra, the team sought to establish a relationship between the building’s geometric form and the surrounding topography.
