Regulatory changes adopted by the Board of Game in March 2023 resulted in adjustments to elk hunting opportunities for Alaska resident hunters in the Unit 8 Remainder and East Afognak Island hunt areas. A portion of the hunting opportunities previously provided through drawing permit hunts in these areas are now offered through a limited number of registration permits. Permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, in-person only and only in the villages of Port Lions and Ouzinkie. Copper Basin community moose hunters may still hunt in Unit 13E through the end of the regularly scheduled season (September 20); however, all bulls taken must meet state general season antler restrictions (spike or fork antlers, or 50-inch antlers, or antlers with four or more brow tines on at least one side). Community moose hunters are required to follow all established salvage requirements for the community harvest hunts through the end of the season. Baiting, Waiting, And More Waiting For Bear Hunters
Consistency is key with baiting as well. Refreshing a bait with scent and food keeps the bears in the area. I check my site twice a week. I also put out a ton of food so that they never eat it dry. Bear baiting is expensive and takes a lot to run. The post Baiting, Waiting, And More Waiting For Bear Hunters appeared first on .

Coho salmon returning to Medvejie Hatchery and Deep Inlet are not expected to meet broodstock goals in 2026. To date, no coho salmon have been collected for broodstock while 2,250 are needed. This closure is necessary to attempt to provide enough coho salmon to meet broodstock needs. The post Coho Fishing Will Close In Sitka鈥檚 Bear Cove, Deep Inlet appeared first on .
