Cambodia remained on the lowest Tier 3 ranking in the U.S. State Department’s human trafficking report released Friday, which found the government had failed to meet minimum standards for eliminating trafficking and was not making significant efforts to address the problem.

Cambodia and Vietnam deepened ties with the signing of six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements covering trade, education, security, drug rehabilitation and cultural preservation during Vietnam’s Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s two-day visit to Cambodia.

It also called for the repeal of restrictive laws, and raised concerns of alleged repression escalating ahead of the local council elections in 2027.
