On The Road: Despite the quirky name, Subaru Uncharted an appealing electric SUV

There are multiple reasons to applaud this new entry into the electric vehicle realm. But one of them isn’t the name. Subaru Uncharted – really!!! According to the company, the 2026 Subaru Uncharted received its name because the company wanted to present the electric SUV as adventurous and align it with Subaru’s outdoorsy image. They also believed the name would appeal to younger car buyers looking for an affordable EV with versatility. However, the standard 2026 Subaru Uncharted model is not equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD), limiting its “adventurous” capabilities somewhat. The lack of all-wheel drive is a departure from every other Subaru vehicle with the exception of the Subaru BRZ, the closest the company comes to offering a sports car. The Uncharted is the first front-wheel-drive Subaru since the 1990s. That makes it less efficient than most Subaru vehicles for mild offroad trips or navigating serious snowy conditions. But higher Uncharted trim models do come equipped with AWD. The arrival of the Uncharted last July gives Subaru three EVs in its lineup. The subcompact Uncharted is the smallest of the three – the Solterra is a compact SUV and the Trailseeker is billed as a rugged midsize SUV. What we enjoy most regarding these three electric Subarus – they are fun to drive, something that can’t be said about practically every other vehicle the Japanese carmaker has produced in the past two decades. Give Toyota a major assist for developing the Uncharted. In a joint agreement with Subaru, Toyota created the remodeled C-HR, which shares the same platform, battery packs and Tesla charging ports as the Uncharted. The C-HR provides AWD in all trim models, but feels far more at home on paved roads. The Uncharted offers better mileage range – up to 308 miles compared to the 287 for the C-HR. The Subaru EV also has a more suitable base price of approximately $34,900, while the C-HR starts at around $37,000. Naturally we were pleased to see the Uncharted veered from the company’s routinely uninspired acceleration and had some major zip to it. We sampled the GT model that has two electric motors, producing 323 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. It can get to places in a hurry, traveling 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The Uncharted base model features a single electric motor that delivers 221 horsepower and 211 pound-feet of torque. It goes 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, more than two seconds slower than the GT and Sport trim models. Both versions of the Uncharted utilize a 74.7 kWh battery pack. Its small size helps make the Uncharted a pleasure to drive. The steering feels quick, the handling is stable and it takes challenging turns and tight corners with ease. What we don’t like is the squared-off shaped (squircle) steering wheel blocks the view of the tiny digital instrument cluster in back of it. Standard driver safety features include pre-collision braking; lane centering and lane keep assist; lane departure and sway warning; rear cross traffic alert; automatic emergency steering; and adaptive cruise control. A large standard 14-inch touchscreen has good graphics and is fairly straight forward to use. There is a convenient knob for radio volume and the climate control can be done without going into multi-levels of the screen to make adjustments. A big area below the center console is large enough to store a woman’s purse. While the front seats are comfortable and roomy, the rear seats lack adequate leg and headroom. The cargo area is fine at 23 cubic feet of space that expands to 59 cubes with the seats folded to the floor. Even though the 2026 Subaru Uncharted is saddled with a quirky name, there’s nothing unordinary regarding its overall appeal. This small electric SUV offers good to great performance, handles well, and has enough strong qualities to make it appealing to the masses. From bell bottoms to Posty: Crawdads on the Lake series rolls into weekend

Lainey Nation and Post Nation close out two-week tribute series with back-to-back waterfront concerts Friday and Saturday The National tribute invasion continues at Crawdads on the Lake this weekend as two more tribute acts take the waterfront stage, bringing the music of country superstar Lainey Wilson and genre-crossing hitmaker Post Malone to Folsom for back-to-back nights of live entertainment. Following last weekend’s performances celebrating Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen, the restaurant’s two-week tribute series returns Friday, Oct. 9, with Lainey Nation, featuring acclaimed touring musician Caitlin Evanson, before Post Nation closes out the series Saturday, Oct. 10. Both performances are scheduled from 9 to 11:30 p.m., giving local music fans another opportunity to experience the songs of some of Nashville’s biggest contemporary stars without leaving Folsom. The four-show series has brought a distinctly modern country flavor to Crawdads, highlighting artists whose music has helped reshape the genre through traditional country influences, Southern rock, pop and crossover collaborations. This weekend’s lineup continues that approach with two very different performers whose original recordings have found audiences well beyond country radio. Lainey Nation brings country hits and accomplished musicianship Friday Friday night’s performance belongs to Lainey Nation, a tribute celebrating the music, personality and signature country sound of Grammy-winning entertainer Lainey Wilson. The show features Caitlin Evanson, an accomplished vocalist and multi-instrumentalist whose professional career includes performing alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry. Evanson’s touring credits include work with Taylor Swift, Shakira, Ringo Starr and Keith Urban, giving the production a performer with considerable experience on major concert stages. Rather than relying solely on the familiar appearance and imagery associated with Wilson, Lainey Nation places a strong emphasis on live musicianship and recreating the sound of the Louisiana-born artist’s recordings. Wilson has become one of country music’s most recognizable performers through a combination of traditional storytelling, contemporary production and a style that blends Southern roots with modern Nashville appeal. Her rise to national prominence accelerated with the success of “Things a Man Oughta Know,” followed by a string of hits that established her as a leading voice in contemporary country music. Among the songs featured in the Lainey Nation production are “Heart Like a Truck,” “Watermelon Moonshine,” “Things a Man Oughta Know” and “Wildflowers and Wild Horses.” The material gives the band an opportunity to move between emotional ballads, country storytelling and more energetic selections designed for audience participation. Wilson’s catalog also includes “4x4xU” and numerous collaborations that have expanded her popularity. Her distinctive vocal delivery and Louisiana influences have become central elements of her musical identity, providing the foundation for Lainey Nation’s tribute performance. Backed by an experienced group of musicians, Evanson brings the songs to the stage in a concert designed to capture the spirit of Wilson’s live performances. The Friday show is open to all ages and begins at 9 p.m. Post Nation closes series Saturday with Post Malone’s crossover hits Saturday night takes the music in another direction as Post Nation arrives at Crawdads to celebrate Post Malone, one of the most successful crossover performers in contemporary popular music. Malone built his career with a sound that moved freely between hip-hop, pop and rock before making a major move into country music. His transition brought a different audience into the Nashville scene while introducing country listeners to an artist already known for an extensive catalog of chart-topping recordings. His country breakthrough included “I Had Some Help,” a collaboration with Morgan Wallen that became one of the defining hits of his country era. The song helped establish the direction of his 2024 album F-1 Trillion, which featured collaborations with numerous established country performers. That album brought Malone together with artists including Blake Shelton, Luke Combs, Dolly Parton and Chris Stapleton, demonstrating his interest in combining contemporary country songwriting with the musical influences that shaped his earlier career. Songs such as “Pour Me a Drink,” featuring Shelton, and “Guy for That,” featuring Combs, further established his place in the country music landscape. His earlier hits, including “Circles,” “Sunflower,” “Rockstar” and “Congratulations,” also illustrate the range of material associated with his career. For a tribute act, that variety offers the potential for a particularly diverse concert experience, moving between country rhythms, pop melodies and the rock-influenced arrangements that have helped make Malone’s music recognizable across multiple formats. Post Nation is part of the same Legends of New Country tribute lineup that includes Ella Nation, Wallen Nation and Lainey Nation. Saturday’s performance begins at 9 p.m. and is open to all ages, bringing the four-show Nashville tribute series to its conclusion. Both concerts take place at Crawdads on the Lake, located at 9900 Greenback Lane overlooking Lake Natoma. The restaurant has continued expanding its live entertainment offerings, combining waterfront dining and cocktails with ticketed performances featuring regional entertainers and touring tribute acts. The concerts are presented festival-style, with patio seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Crawdads recommends making dinner reservations for guests planning to dine before the performances, and purchasing a concert ticket does not guarantee a table for dinner. Tickets and additional information for both shows are available through the Crawdads on the Lake live music calendar. Copyright © 2026, Folsom Times, a digital product of All Town Media LLC.
