Donald Trump chooses 'devoted fan' as new White House Press Secretary

Donald Trump has chosen a "devoted fan" and conservative commentator to serve as the new White House Press Secretary. Katie Zacharia, who currently works for Trump Media & Technology Group, will take the reigns from Karoline Leavitt, who left the White House to spend more time with her children last month. She previously served a brief stint as a spokeswoman in the Department of Homeland Security. The President said Mrs Zacharia had previously been involved on the campaign trail and helped Mr Trump win "seven out of seven" key swing states. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say Mr Trump, in a statement on Truth Social, said: "She is, likewise, a devoted fan and member of MAGA! "I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the media, the American People, and my Administration." Mrs Zacharia will become the President's sixth Press Secretary over his two terms. Mr Trump also praised Mrs Zacharia as having an "unblemished record of support" as a "loyal and brilliant supporter, right form the beginning". Former Press Secretary Ms Leavitt gained high praise from Mr Trump as she left the role, and is now taking a job with Fox News. Mrs Zacharia thanked the President for the "distinguished privilege of serving as White House Press Secretary". In her own statement on Truth Social, she said: "Serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark is the honor of a lifetime. President Trump has shown America that we can be great again, and he works to effectuate that greatness every single day. "His confidence is a true privilege, and his leadership is a blessing to this country." ### LATEST US POLITICS NEWS: - Donald Trump strikes diesel deal with Russia as Ukraine warns US about 'giving gift to Putin' - Donald Trump makes last-minute appeal for Nobel Peace Prize - 'I'm not bragging' - Donald Trump to call Vladimir Putin over Russia plague fears as Marco Rubio demands answers The 42-year-old California native is a frequent commentator on US outlets including Fix News and Newsmax. I don't know if that's good or bad." The Press Secretary serves as the main spokesperson for the President, but also handles relationships with the press, coordinating communications with other parts of the White House, and managing an office that receives a significant amount of media inquiries. Former Marco Rubio chief of staff Matt Terrill told GB News it was a "fantastic pick" that makes "total sense". "This is someone who understands the press, but also understands President Trump and has the trust and backing of President Trump, and I also believe, has the trust of the members of the media," he said. Mr Terrill said he expected a high level of transparency from the new appointment. He added: "There is no question in my mind that this has been the most transparent presidency of my lifetime."
